Superb Book in Every Way - Six Stars

Everything, and I mean everything, about this book is superb - the content, the reading, everything. This is read by AI but sometimes AI readings are better than teadings by people and that is the case with this book but slow the reading down to 70 percent speed for best effect. Sometimes AI butchers the pronunciation of, especially, philosophic terms but there is almost none of that in this recording. The content again, is superb. The way the book is written makes complex ideas not only easily understandable but engaging. Yes, I was very pleased with this book and will listen to it again. It offers not only information about Valentius and his thought but can, in a way, serve as an intro to gnosticism in general. Particularly interesting was the way the book illustrated how Valentius' thought has survived to this present day woven into and through a thousand diverse philosophies and even affecting cultural movements. In summation, good book.

a Perfect intro to Gnosticism

Valentinus is a name that repeats over and over when researching origins of Gnosticism. However, the body of knowledge comprising Gnosticism is so vast that a student can continue on and on in their research without ever needing to learn specifically about Valentinus or his direct teachings. This would be a grave mistake for that student as this book perfectly points out. I have always struggled how to share the message of Gnosticism in a clear and concise way to someone who is uninitiated. This book fills that role beautifully. From the history and life of Valentinus himself, to the complex explanation of the unknowable God and his Eons, to the beautiful explanation of Christ as a bringer of Gnosis and a redeemer, as well as the story of Sophia and her fall from Grace, this book does it all in a clear and concise way that commands me to share it with anyone who is interested. well done.

Good Book

I enjoyed this book a lot. It was very thorough on the Valentinians and their history. If you are interested in early church history and gnosticism you will enjoy this book!

fantastic introduction

the computer narrator was better than a lot of human narrators who butcher the pronunciations. this title offered exactly what I was looking for from an introduction on gnosticism and I recommended it to many family and friends. the author repeats information A LOT to make it seem longer, but that was my only complaint.
