Twenty-four-year-old Veronika seems to have everything—youth and beauty, boyfriends and a loving family, a fulfilling job. But something is missing in her life. So, one cold November morning, she takes a handful of sleeping pills expecting never to wake up. But she does—at a mental hospital where she is told that she has only days to live.

Inspired by events in Coelho’s own life, Veronika Decides to Die questions the meaning of madness and celebrates individuals who do not fit into patterns society considers to be normal. Bold and illuminating, it is a dazzling portrait of a young woman at the crossroads of despair and liberation, and a poetic, exuberant appreciation of each day as a renewed opportunity.

really enjoyed this one. the story moved at a steady pace, however don't expect a read like the alchemist but it still had a moral question.

good read

I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's in Veronica's treatment. Maybe it's in the why and how her attitude changes. Perhaps it's the lack of connection Veronica has with others, or that it was just a bit too sparsely written.

It's not bad. It's just not quite as good as it could have been. The ending becomes obvious about 3/4 of the way in, but it's not a bad way to end. It just doesn't feel cathartic or as satisfying as it should.

Or maybe it's just me.

Something's missing.

Decided to read this book, after the Alchemist and it did not disappoint. It reminds you to celebrate your life everyday by living it to the fullest.

Great book!

I wasn't the biggest fan, hard to follow and the presentation was really odd in the beginning but definitely got better near the end.
