My stepbrother used me and threw me away. Now he's the only one I can turn to.

When my car is stolen outside my new college dorm, my roommate points me to "The Vigil"—a trio of students who tackle crimes when campus security drops the ball.

The last thing I expect walking into the Vigil's office is to find Logan Brooks staring back at me.

I want nothing to do with the stepbrother I once had the world's hugest crush on. Two years ago, patching up his mysterious injuries led to a passionate hookup on the bathroom sink. And then he totally ghosted me.

But even though he looks at me like I'm dirt under his shoe, he and his distractingly hot friends insist on taking my case.

No way am I letting them investigate on their own. Working with them will give me the chance to find out what's really up with Logan. Why he was bruised and bleeding that night. Why he's shut off the whole family.

Except when our search takes an unexpected turn, I realize the truth is even more horrifying than what I thought I knew....

This story is set within the Devil’s Dozen world as the other series by this author, but it’s not as good.

The narrators were fine, but the main characters were just young and slightly dumb. The MFC was stubborn about stupid things in the first two books she came off as petulant. In later books, she made so many obvious errors in judgement that it is truly hard to believe she wasn’t killed off by the bad guys.

I get the MMCs are still in college, but their immaturity was handled by alluding to issues from their childhoods, but never actually explained or addressed. Overall, I stopped listening a few times just because I was annoyed and didn’t care anymore, but not horrible enough to DNF.

Not my favorite from this author/connected world

Let me start with saying this… I love Eva Chance (aka Eva Chase). I was into this series until the end. I feel like one it got to Beckett’s contribution, he was pulling punches. Maybe that was the lawful thing to due but there were many other offensive things he could have done besides always being on defensive. It made him seem weak & not so much of boss as he is suppose to be. He was more boss like in crooked paradise than his beginning approach in this series. Without giving anything away. I feel like he should have just done the last thing first.

Anyways, that just my two cents but maybe that’s the way it was suppose to come across as. If that’s the case, I’m disappointed in the end character that Beckett turned into.

Good but got sloppy

If you are like me you have listened to the other books in this set. So the writer putting they didn't know who would take over Doom seeds place. Matty took him down so the offer would go to her just like the Blood Hunter. I remember Becketts story from a earlier book. I have all the books in this set. So great full they were sold in complete box sets. Love almost all of the stories. Narrators we're great. Recommend to 18+ . There's some spice, Thank you again to the writer for a action packed love story.

Another good one from Eva Chace

I read this about a week ago but have just been blazinf through the other books set in this world. The spice level throughout these 4 books stays on hot. The way the plot finally unfolds and comes to an end is amazing. Not even going to lie I didn't expect it
As I said I am loving the Devil's Dozen and now on the 3rd and final series that just released last week! If you love mafia, RH, spice levels at hot then this is so for you!

Great Narration and Plot

Before starting this series grab a bottle of your favorite alcohol. Every time you hear the phrase swallowed thickly take a drink. You'll be drunk before the end of the first book. Who ever the editor was should have given the authors a thesaurus or made suggestions for a different turn of phrase. By the end of the series I was so irritated hearing it I wanted to scream. The female narrator didn't help either. Why she chose to give the guys a lisp when the male narrator didn't is beyond me. Overall the story was fairly good. There were a few inconsistencies and timeline things that were a little confusing. One had to do with Logan's transplant and his age. In one portion it sounded like he received it at 9 yrs old instead of the 7 mentioned prior then reverts back to 7. The last is a spoiler so stop reading if that kind of thing bothers you. *********************

In the end of the prior series based in this world a new Devil's Dozen member was chosen because she took out the past member. Why is that not what happened here? Who fills his spot? It's left as a loose end that wasn't addressed. Hopefully, it will be addressed in the next book.
