Editorial reviews

Acclaimed actress Cheryl Lynn Bruce brings her appealing and buttery voice to this tale of life in a West African village. A young girl named Osa is on a quest to understand why the women in her village live in round houses while the men live in square ones; her grandmother supplies the answers she is seeking. Children using the app version will enjoy watching the colorful chalk illustrations change as they listen to the rhythmic story. Fun to listen to, and a useful way to teach children about geography and gender issues.

I absolutely love the narrator of this book, who is an African woman with a beautiful and melodic voice. This audiobook has original illustrations from the book that you can watch as you listen - because picture books were meant to be enjoyed with the pictures! We've been going through the With Synchronized Images category and buying up the picture books with images - many are mis-categorized and do not show the original images but this one DOES have that option!

I love the illustrations and the narrator!
