Beneath the Pacific Ocean, a volcano surges upward, carrying in its fiery heart a mineral more powerful than uranium. When the volcano breaks the ocean’s surface, America and other nations will battle to control what is known as Vulcan’s Forge, a source of limitless, clean, nuclear power.

The secret of Vulcan’s Forge begins to unravel when Mercer, a man of many talents now working for the United States Geologic Survey, learns that the daughter of an old friend is in danger. Saving her takes Mercer from the Oval Office to a secret submarine off Hawaii. On the islands, the secession movement, controlled by a megalomaniac Japanese multimillionaire, has turned violent, and the United States trembles on the brink of civil war.

Great story and storyline development. Written in 1998 and they still used fax machines. Still a good story. Worth a listen!

Du Brul’s first book? Really good!

A couple of petty gripes though, all of the Asian characters are consistently referred to as Oriental. I'm pretty sure Asian is the correct name.
Also, and this term is used a lot, the thing that holds the bullets is called a magazine not a clip..

Vulcan's Forge is an easy read/listen. Fast paced, not a lot of depth. Similar to a Dirk Pitt novel. I have read or listened to just about all of Du Brul's books. He is a good author. I had not listened to this title until it was offered free from Audible. I would not pay full price for it, but on a discount it isn't bad.

Du Brul gets better over time.

This is his first book. He gets better

Child rape? Really? Absolutely disgusting. The reader of the book sounds as if he gets off reading the vile horrid book. Did not finish.

I can’t give it a low enough score.
