The career of the USS Wahoo in sinking Japanese ships in the farthest reaches of the Empire is legendary in submarine circles.

Christened three months after Pearl Harbor, Wahoo was commanded by the astonishing Dudley W. "Mush" Morton, whose originality and daring new techniques led to results unprecedented in naval history; among them, successful "down the throat" barrage against an attacking Japanese destroyer, voracious surface-running gun attacks, and the sinking of a four-ship convoy in one day.

Wahoo took the war to Japan's front porch, and Morton became known as the Navy's most aggressive and successful sea raider. Now, her full story is told by the person most qualified to tell it - her executive officer Richard O'Kane, who went on to become the leading submarine captain of the Second World War.

Really enjoyed this. There were times in this book that really grabbed me and would not let me put it down. it was an easy and enjoyable listen with factual accounts or sub warfare during WW2.

Fascinating story

If it was not for the listening of this book by Richard O’Kane, the last patrol of Wahoo and all her crew would never have been told.
The research and dedication by O’Kane to determine what happened to his old ship is amazing and we thank him for another selfless act to the dedication of his fellow officers and crew lost on Wahoo.
Had Mush survived the last patrol, would O’Kane have ended the war atop of Tang in Tokyo Bay? Very likely…..

Excellent!

This along with other books written by the men and women who served in the wars that shaped our world should be a part of everyone’s consciousness.

Well written and factual, we get a glimpse into the life of the men who paid such an inordinate price to win the war against national socialism and fascism.

A must read for everyone above the age of 12.
