Wall: I want my wife back, but I lost the right to be with her one drunken night four years ago. She might think I bailed, but I've been here all along. When she finally comes to me? I ain't letting her go again.

Mona: I've moved on. Not literally. And not in my heart. But I'm not the broken woman whose husband betrayed her and left. I'm stronger now.

But when I run into trouble, and I need a backup? Well, John Wall is still the biggest, toughest man I've ever known.

I thought I knew what tore us apart, but when I let John back in, I realize the past—like people—isn't always what it seems. And second chances? They can break you forever.

Contains mature themes.

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 nothing that I love more than an angsty second chance romance and Cate C. Wells delivers! I’m a sucker for a good emotional story that will have me all teary-eyed and somehow mend my little heart. It’s the best therapy if you ask me. 🫣😄

𝗜 first read "𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹" a couple of years ago, so when I discovered there was a new audio version, I had to listen to it. It's important to note that this book featured cheating, miscommunication, and pregnancy loss. Although these events happen off the page, it is important to check possible triggers.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 story centers around Mona and John, who tied the knot at a young age, but their marriage hits a rocky patch when John's actions lead to him cheating on her while intoxicated. Despite his regret, John does what he believes is best for Mona and steps away, yet continues to support her from a distance. While his actions are admirable in some ways, it's frustrating that he doesn't grovel as much as I expect. Fast-forward four years later, John wants to regain Mona's trust and win her back, learning from his past mistakes and maturing in the process. Although I felt the story could have been more fleshed out, it did evoke a range of emotions, which is always a plus in my book!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 audio version is top-notch, with 𝗝𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗲 and 𝗧𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺 skillfully bringing out the raw emotions of the characters with their performances. Overall, if you can handle themes of infidelity and appreciate a protective biker, this audiobook is worth a listen!

An emotionally gripping, heartbreaking, but heartfelt journey to go on with John and Mona. This story captured my attention from the beginning, had me a little frustrating (with John), but left me smiling in the end. I absolutely enjoyed every single moment of this story.

The first Steel Bones book I had to DNF. I really disliked infidelity being such a big part of this book. Slight spoilers ahead.

The characters break up because the hero cheats on the heroine one time and tells her the same night. Okay. Not my favorite, but I tried to stick it out.

What reallyyy irked me was that, amidst their reunion four years later, the heroine has some half-baked epiphany 3/4 of the way through that the infidelity was kind of her fault too because she was depressed over *checks notes* multiple miscarriages???????

Like I'm sorry, but if your partner can't handle you being sad for a bit over the most wrenching thing that can happen to a woman without cheating, he is WEAK. Not someone you can build a life with. Not someone you can count on when things get tough.

I felt it was a very irresponsible choice by the author to position John's infidelity as anyone's fault but his. And it is absolutely not virtuous that he only did it once. So. What.

I wish I'd never read this, or at least read the first two chapters and then imagined that Mona got her multiple degrees and ended up with a handsome, trustworthy doctor.

I felt absolutely no sympathy for John. He's also just a big muscular blob on the page. He has no deep inner thoughts other than "I really messed up my marriage :(" Eeyuck! He deserved all the misery he felt and I'm just sad Mona forgave him.

I'm getting mad just thinking about this book. I'm going to have to read a different series for awhile to purge this one from my mind. Especially cause Heavy was like "u shouldn't feel bad, it was only the one time 👀" and he's one of the upcoming books. No thanks.

Disappointing
