Most relevant
Few masters of the thriller genre are more psychologically subtle than Bayer. But the characters in Wallflower sink to lower levels of abjection than his other stories. The antagonists are unbearably pathetic, and will make you long for the gleefully wicked villains of some of his other novels. Still, the plot is as engrossing, the writing as sharp and observant, and the scenery as well described as ever.
