Despite his fiancée's chilling betrayal, developer Ryan Beardsley provided for Kelly Christian when he sent her packing. So he's livid to find her working in a dingy Houston diner, desperate and pregnant. Regardless of whether the baby is his-- or his brother's-- Ryan demands that Kelly return to New York with him. Note: This is book 2 in Maya Bank’s Pregnancy & Passion series. (The titles were shortened at one point for a print/ebook rerelease). While each book covers the entire arc for a single couple – references to events are made as the series goes on that makes these best listened to in order.

I liked the set up for Ryan & Kelly’s story. Unfortunately, it takes a while to unfold and is bogged down by repetitive dialogue/internal musings. I wish Banks had spent more time redeeming Ryan as the ending was pretty abrupt. It’s an easy listen though.

Narration:
Harry Berkeley does a good job with the narration.

I thought the narrator did a wonderful job with his portrayal of the story as well as the emotions of the characters. Loved the story and will definitely read more by this author.

This book held my attention, which is why I gave it three stars, but it had so much stupidity in it, that I can’t say I liked it. For starters, I can’t wrap my brain around the female h not calling the police and filing assault charges. It should have been the first thing she did, along with a trip to the hospital. From there, it just got dumber. And the fact that the h quietly accepts what the H says without lashing out until the end also makes no sense. There is a reason readers hate Dolores Umbridge more than Lord Voldemort. When Harry has to write “I will not tell lies” into his skin for telling the truth, we hate her for punishing him for something he didn’t do. Here, too, we hate Ryan for the same thing. Worse, he betrays her then offers to forgive her. It makes zero sense that she doesn’t defend herself or even go on the offensive.

Then there is all the traveling this woman with pre-eclampsia does. As someone who was once on bed rest, the idea of not just one, but multiple doctors giving the go ahead for cross country flights and travel is absurd. The idea that when the doctor tells her she needs to avoid stress she doesn’t use that info to get him out of her face also makes no sense. She doesn’t even tell him that HE is the cause of her stress even though she cries like a waterfall through the whole book.

The entire thing was just too unbelievable and too annoying to be enjoyable. And when the end came, it was impossible to believe that seven months of grief and pain are washed away in a single act of begging for forgiveness. It just doesn’t work that way. I don’t buy it. Not even a little.

Improbable and disappointing
