Jewel McKerry is on the brink of unraveling as she heads home to Oregon to help care for her father who has early-onset dementia. Her thirteen-year-old daughter is upset about the move. Her beekeeper dad is a humorous handful. Her mom is overworked and overwhelmed. Finances are stretched tight. And, according to her father, the neighbors are nothing but trouble.

We need more family stories like this!!

This was by far the absolutely best novel from Carlson I’ve ever read. It’s as if she said, “But God, he was my husband.” Then wept. Then used the talents God gave her and wrote the story placed in her heart to share hope and healing. I pray Mrs. Carlson is healing as well and my true condolences. This was a true Christian family story at its core set against a warm Americana. Read it and you won’t be disappointed!

I have enjoyed many Melody Carlson books, and this one is my all time favorite. As someone who has walked through dementia with a parent and siblings, I appreciated the author’s handling of this topic.
The characters are well crafted, and their relationships with each other were the highlight of the story for me. I highly recommend this beautiful, heartwarming story. The audiobook was a real treat. I didn’t want it to end.

Sweet Story

I wasn't sure about the content of the story as I have loved ones dealing with Dementia, but this story gave hope and humor to what can often be a difficult and frustrating journey with suffering loved ones who experience the cruel mental diseases of dementia and Alzheimer's. I'm hoping for a sequel. :)

I enjoyed the story, although bittersweet. I didn’t care for the narrator’s voices, but the topic of Alzheimer’s was a very good one to deal with.

Fairly realistic portrayal of dealing with the difficulties of dementia

Overall a good story . I was a little impatient with the lack of understanding of the wife and daughter assuming a
Person with advanced dementia could be left alone for more than a few minutes without supervision.
Some unnecessary predicaments because of that .
Liked the character development .The narrator was good.
