For fans of Robin Benway's Far from the Tree, a powerful and heartwarming look at a teen girl about to age out of the foster care system.

Growing up in foster care, Muir has lived in many houses. And if she's learned one thing, it is to Pack. Light. Carry only what fits in a suitcase.

Toothbrush? Yes. Socks? Yes. Emotional attachment to friends? Foster families? A boyfriend? Nope! There's no room for any additional baggage.

Muir has just one year left before she ages out of the system. One year before she's free. One year to avoid anything - or anyone - that could get in her way.

Then she meets Francine. And Kira. And Sean.

And everything changes.

This is a wonderful book describing the experiences of a teenaged girl who is about to age out of the foster system. I’ve often wondered how children survive and are able to move forward when they have aged out. The people, the relationships, the honesty, the story have taken hold of me. I have listened to this book 4 times in the past 18 months and will continue to do so for many years, I am sure.

LOVED this book. It’s so true to the account of children in foster care. I love that it identifies the brokenness of the our system. The treasures that kids can find meaning about in the middle of heartbreak. I didn’t want the book to end because I wanted to see more of her journey in experiencing love inside her and around her.

True, beautiful and endearing
