Isobel McKenzie is an experienced and intuitive psychotherapist who is on sabbatical while recovering from illness. Reluctantly she goes to London to help out an old friend, solicitor Peter Wright, who is uneasy about the partisan nature of a proposed divorce settlement. He asks her to meet the couple, Thomas and Anne Banks, to assess the situation. Is Anne, a recovering alcoholic, possibly being coerced into signing an agreement which not only gives Thomas control of all their assets but also sole custody of their son?

Isobel immediately senses that something is awry and, despite herself, finds herself drawn deeper and deeper into the case. She joins forces with Patricia King, a resourceful and imaginative secretary at the law firm. As they talk to family and friends of the couple they discover conflicting tales of alcoholism, coercion and possible abuse.

With the divorce settlement set to be signed in ten days’ time, Isobel and Patricia find themselves plunged into a dark world of lies and subterfuge where they are in a race to uncover and prove the truth.

Just say “NO!” to AI voice narration!

The story of this book was actually what kept me listening. AI voice has flat affect with no emotional emphasis on words and phrases. Easy sentences were narrated incorrectly. No difference in tone so I couldn’t tell which character was speaking, when in conversation. Many times there was the wrong emphasis on the wrong syllable. So much time and passion goes into creating the characters of stories and then in the story itself- don’t do yourself the disservice of getting a machine to narrate it! Machines do t think or feel and it was an obvious drawback.

AI Narration is Awful

Great story! Terrible narration. No emotion or inflection. Particularly bad with dates & numbers; Instead of saying nine nine nine, AI says nine hundred ninety nine

Virtual Voice us the worst! I believe it was a good book and story but virtual voice did the book no favors! I am sore to have to write this

Really not good.

The writing felt very childish. The dialogue between the characters felt like what a teenager thought adults spoke like to each each other. It was very forced, and the narration did not help having it narrated by AI missed so many nuances and made the story even more difficult to suffer through.
