When Platinum Rusts is a biopunk dystopian fantasy about the fragile beginnings of a future we never meant to enter.
In the ruins of a failed colonisation project, Eternum, Doctor Selest Dvali leads a desperate experiment: to engineer a new kind of human. Not from ambition, but from fear, duty, and love.
With only scraps of forgotten technology and a few fractured allies, Selest attempts to build loaders—genetically and technologically enhanced beings, strong enough to survive civilisation’s end.
But the deeper she delves, the more the lines blur. Ethics erode. Mistakes multiply. And every failure leaves a permanent scar.
Set fifty years before the Who is Vist series, this novel stands alone to uncover the buried legacy and the secret origin of Vist.

It’s striking how good intentions can sometimes lead to unintended consequences especially when fear, duty, and love drive decisions in extreme circumstances. Doctor Selest Dvali’s desperate efforts to engineer a new kind of human in a fractured world vividly illustrate how ethics can erode when survival is at stake. I found myself reflecting on the delicate balance between innovation and responsibility.. and how easily moral lines can blur when the stakes feel unbearably high! the author's narrative exploration of morality, identity, and scientific ambition reminded me that even the most compassionate choices can leave lasting scars if empathy is lost along the way. I felt a deeper awareness of the complexity of ethical decisions and the importance of considering both intent and impact when shaping the future.

Wow, this was uncomfortable in the best way. This book makes you think about the systems we live in. The contrast of the beauty and oppression were amazing.

This audiobook completely pulled me in from the first chapter. The world of When Platinum Rusts feels both futuristic and heartbreakingly human. I loved how Dr. Selest Dvali isn’t your typical sci-fi hero—she’s deeply flawed, driven by fear and love more than ambition. The moral tension in her choices kept me thinking long after I finished. Hannah Preisinger’s voice fits perfectly; calm when it needs to be, but full of emotion in the tough moments. It’s dark, beautiful, and totally unforgettable. I am going to listen to this again on my flight i feel like it missed some stuff.

This is a very powerful book, I really enjoyed the story, although enjoyable is not really accurate, there are uncomfortable and difficult themes throughout the book, but explored in a powerful way. Highly recommend.
