From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby comes When You Blush, a small–town, forced–proximity romance set in Bitterroot Valley!

Blake

I don’t do relationships, but I’m excellent at casual hookups. That’s not to say I’m a jerk. Not at all. I respect women—all women—and I know the value of love. But I’m married to my job as a physician. In fact, I’m married to the hospital, having a full–time affair with the clinic, and my family is my side piece. I don’t have time for a relationship with a woman. But then the most beautiful human I’ve ever laid eyes on walks onto my plane, and my world tilts. Thanks to a Montana snowstorm, I spend one incredible night with Harper, but wake up alone. She never told me her last name. She’s just . . . gone. It would figure that the one woman I could see myself breaking my own rules for is the one I can’t have.

Harper

It’s time for me to come home to Montana to help take care of my dad and pick up the slack for my siblings. I’ve been gone for a long time, but this beautiful corner of the world is my home. I’m excited to start my job as a NICU nurse at Bitterroot Valley General and begin a new chapter in my life. A fresh start. A clean slate. Then he walks into the room, and it’s suddenly hard to breathe. Blake was the one–night stand who still haunts my dreams. The man can do things. Amazing things. But I never thought I’d see him again. Okay, that’s a lie. I knew he worked at this hospital, but he’s an ER doctor. I’m in a different department, so I planned to avoid him. Yet that didn’t last more than the first hour of my first shift. Now, he’s pursuing me and saying things like forever. But with a past like mine, can I trust that he won’t tire of me and leave? Or is this finally my happily ever after?

I had a hard time trying to title this. the story was wonderful which hence the title. if you read all the tropes you actually already know pretty much some of the things that happened in the story it kind of gives it all away which in some aspects I don't necessarily care for because I did read all the tropes I am one of those people who don't even usually read blurbs of authors that I absolutely love and I absolutely love this author. this story is sweet and fierce and emotional it kind of hits all the buttons actually. I was anxious for this one just because the male character that you see in the other stories he is a flirt but never paid much mind to women because he was focused on his career and I'm finally glad to see that there's a woman who stopped him dead in his tracks. The narrators did an excellent job Jason Clark I swear can do no wrong He is such a phenomenal performer. and Stella Hunter is also one heck of a performer she played her character so well. I swear these two are part of the reason I listen to audiobooks they do such a phenomenal job. again the story is really good I really don't want to go through it read the tropes read the synopsis and just know that these two narrators bring this story to life and it is wonderful.

The book as a whole was also amazing. It flowed so well. There where jumps in time between scenes but nothing that made me feel lost. The connection between Blake and Harper made my heart happy. I felt their relationship was a realistic one. It was also nice not to have any bad jump scares. Not all romance books need to have some serious situation to overcome. This book is definitely in my top 10 books of 2025. The audiobook is in my top 5 for the 2025! Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter 100% add to the story. They did such an amazing job with the dual narration. 100% will read and listen to this book again.

So amazing

📚🤎 When You Blush by Kristen Proby (Blackwells of Montana #4)

I think this one might officially be my favorite Blackwells book so far. Blake and Harper just hit me in a completely different way—so much tenderness, so much vulnerability, and such a deeply sincere look at what it means to love someone while juggling the emotional realities of medicine.

Blake is the last man who thinks he has time for love—he’s married to his job, his pager, and every inch of the hospital. But the moment he meets Harper during that snowstorm-delayed flight? He falls, hard. Their one unforgettable night together becomes this haunting what-if… until she shows up in his hospital as the new NICU nurse. And from there, the pining? The determination? Blake is all in.

Harper’s story tugged at my heart. Coming home to Montana to care for her dad, stepping into a high-stress NICU environment, facing her past while trying to build something new—she’s resilient and soft and so incredibly easy to root for. Her hesitation, her hope, her fear of not being enough… it all felt so real.

As a medical mama, I really felt the sincerity in the way Kristen Proby wrote both of their worlds—the late nights, the emotional exhaustion, the way the ED, clinic, and NICU each carry their own kind of heartbreak and joy. Their connection grows through those shared experiences, and it makes every moment between them feel earned, intimate, and beautifully human.

This is love at first sight, yes—but it’s also love through chaos. Love through fear. Love that chooses you again and again. Blake never stops pursuing her, never stops showing her that she is worth the forever he’s offering, and it completely captivated me.

A gorgeous, tender, small-town medical romance that left me swooning and emotional in all the best ways. The Blackwells just keep getting better.

Have you read this one yet? 🤎🏥❄️🔥
