The novel follows Bill and Erika, who set out for what is mean to be a pleasant evening together. When Bill attends his twentieth high school reunion, the night takes an unexpected turn. He experiences a disorienting journey into his past and is confronted with a moment he once believed would be his last-and with a gift given on that night that would quietly alter the course of his life.

It is a story about interruption-about the thin space between life and death-and about what can follow when hope arrives in unexpected ways.
