In small town Laurel Ridge, not everything is as simple as it appears

After a terrible betrayal, Allison Standish flees Philadelphia for the small Amish village of Laurel Ridge to claim an unexpected inheritance. Allison intends to sell the mansion housing various shops on Main Street until she meets Nick Whiting, a single father and tenant of Blackburn House, who challenges everything she believes about her estranged grandmother and the Amish community.

Strange stipulations in her grandmother's will soon bring distant relatives and seething townsfolk to Allison's door. As anonymous threats escalate, Nick grows protective of Allison, and she finds herself falling for the handsome carpenter But then she discovers her grandmother's death may not have been accidental, and someone wants Allison gone. Permanently.

The story was predictable but pretty fun. A solid summer read. The narration was a bit simplistic but not distracting.

It was enjoyable

The narration was horrible. Very hard to get through this book. Luckily plenty of chores needed to be done, to help distract me.

The book wasn’t bad but the narration made the book boring. I may have liked it much better with different narrator.

The story line has the bones of a decent mystery. However the narrator is so bad at any of the voices other than the main character, it’s almost painful to listen to. Particularly bad is her but butchering of the Amish dialect and voice of the child character.

I made to the end, but only because it was a distraction while doing chores.

Maybe this would have been better as a Kindle book.

Interesting story line, but really bad narration

I expected a good story. And to be entertained. What I didn't expect was the depth of character and quick assessment of each individual. The individual personalities were well defined. The story kept my interest and I wasn't convinced I knew who "did" it up to the very end! I will be reading the next one for sure. The narration was above average and I appreciated a story I could let my granddaughter read.

Very well written
