A beloved classic that captures the powerful bond between man and man’s best friend.

Billy has long dreamt of owning not one, but two, dogs. So when he’s finally able to save up enough money for two pups to call his own—Old Dan and Little Ann—he’s ecstatic. It doesn’t matter that times are tough; together they’ll roam the hills of the Ozarks.

Soon Billy and his hounds become the finest hunting team in the valley. Stories of their great achievements spread throughout the region, and the combination of Old Dan’s brawn, Little Ann’s brains, and Billy’s sheer will seems unbeatable. But tragedy awaits these determined hunters—now friends—and Billy learns that hope can grow out of despair, and that the seeds of the future can come from the scars of the past.

I loved this book as a child. It was wonderful - beautifully read. I listen to books when I work out at the gym. I think that the people around me must of thought I was crazy - at the end of the book I was on the treadmill and tears were running down my face and my nose was running. Just a wonderful, fabulous book and great reader.

If you didn't read this book in jr. high, then it is worth a listen now. I read the book so many years ago, that I had forgotten that I read it. After listening for 15 minutes it all came back and I listened to the entire book. Great once again. Brought back fond memories of why I wanted a dog a kid and now why I love my dogs so much. Decent listen for a weekend at the cabin or a drive in the country.
