WHISPERS IN THE HIGHLANDS

When Lady Amelia Lockwood's reckless morning ride leads to a dangerous fall in the Scottish Highlands, she never expects to be rescued by the mysterious and formidable Torin MacKenzie, a clan chief whose dark reputation precedes him. After being discovered alone with him, she finds herself forced into marriage by royal decree – a marriage he openly refuses until threatened with the loss of his clan's lands.

But the MacKenzie clan harbors dangerous secrets, and Torin's resistance to their marriage hides deeper wounds than the loss of his first wife two years ago. Despite his determination to keep his new bride at arm's length, the undeniable attraction between them threatens to shatter his carefully maintained control.

As Amelia adjusts to life in the wild highlands, she finds herself drawn into a world of ancient traditions and mysteries she never knew existed. The clan watches her with knowing eyes, while rival clans circle like wolves in the night. With each passing day, she feels herself falling deeper for a man who claims he'll never love again – even as his actions betray his words.

But when ancient enemies threaten to expose the clan's darkest secret, Amelia must decide if she's strong enough to accept the truth about the man she's grown to love – a truth that could either bind them together forever or tear them violently apart.

Set against the untamed beauty of the Scottish Highlands, this sweeping romance weaves together passion, danger, and ancient magic in a tale of two souls destined to find each other – if they dare to embrace their fate.

Highlands romance meets werewolves—what’s not to like? The story has clan rivalries, magic, and plenty of supernatural elements. While the premise was intriguing, the pacing slowed in places and sometimes felt like the story wasn’t moving forward. Still, it was an enjoyable listen overall, and the narration was well done. 3.25/5

UGH—this one started off pretty strong, but halfway through (around chapter 9) it really began to drag. The repetition became hard to ignore; the same points were made over and over until I found myself eye-rolling and saying out loud, “Seriously? You just said that.”

There was also a “heroic” moment that kept getting referenced repeatedly, almost like, “I did this, so you should trust me now.” After a while, it felt pretty forced and took away from the impact it could have had.

The first half of the book was genuinely good, but chapter nine was tough to get through—so redundant it bordered on ridiculous. Overall, it’s a decent story that could have been much better if it hadn’t been stretched out so much in certain parts. It does end on a cliffhanger—not a major one, but definitely leaving more to be told.

The narration, however, was well done and helped carry the experience.
