Struggling under the stifling weight of small-town Nevada, Kelsey can't afford to change the trajectory of his life. Instead, he spends what money he can scrape together working at the local auto mechanic shop to pay for beer and women. His life stretches around him like the desert he lives in - vast, dark and empty - until lightening strikes in the form of an enigmatic woman named Jordyn.

Kelsey and Jordyn kindle a romance, but when Jordyn's secrets are revealed their relationship is pushed to the breaking point. Hope, however, is found in the unlikeliest of places and love is never to be underestimated.

In this first novel by Rachel Marie Chase, take an unfiltered look at the grittiness of life. A story about the power of love and the depths of forgiveness, Wild Edges tackles real life unflinchingly head-on and explores the answer to the age-old question: Does love really conquer all?

This is a love story told in flashback. It is also a religious parable masquerading as a romance. But as I felt when reading the lauded Normal People by Sally Rooney, I kept thinking: please don't let this be what passes for normal. This book is about life in a harsh terrain (Nevada) lived by harsh people who are accustomed to pain and cruelty. Love blooms in this desert, but it is not an easily-won love. The author obviously has a religious angle, but she does not try to shove it down the reader's throat (although personally, I think the story would have been fine without it). All in all, I was glad I had listened to Wild Edges (I was gifted a copy of the audiobook at my request in exchange for an objective review), but I wouldn't race to return to the world the author presented.
