I live my life by the rules because I've seen what happens when they're broken. As a wilderness paramedic, I've carried too many preventable tragedies off these mountains. Then Sierra Frost blew into town with her wild excursions and carefree attitude, bringing trouble in those hiking boots. The town thinks she's a breath of fresh air. I think she's a safety hazard.

Now we're paired up to create safety protocols, and I can't stop thinking about how her lips curve when she argues with me. She makes me want things I've spent years avoiding. And that terrifies me more than any mountain rescue ever could.

I came to Pine Vale to help women feel powerful in the wilderness, not to be micromanaged by some overprotective paramedic with a clipboard and a scowl. Sure, the mountains can be dangerous, but so is living a life trapped by fear. My clients need freedom, not another man telling them what they can't do.

Except when Theo looks at me with those intense eyes, something inside me wants to break all my own rules. He makes me feel seen in ways that scare me, and I'm the girl who rappels off cliffs for fun.
