Winston Braeburn is the son of a wealthy financier. When he realizes his life is set out before him in a track he's following as planned, he decides to break free from his father's plans and do something completely out of his comfort zone. He takes a summer job with a national forest in the state of Idaho.

Leaving New York against his father's wishes, Wiston takes a train ride across the country where he knows he'll be fending for himself and learning to do a lot of everyday tasks it seems everyone but Winston knows how to perform. He's looking forward to the opportunity to find out what he's made of in the wilderness.

If he makes it to the wilderness. Someone on the train has a bead on Winston and smells money. And they have plans of their own.

This novella is part of the Johnny Lister Mystery series and takes place between books 1 and 2.
