Thrilling true stories of brave women who freed slaves, helped the sick, and spoke up for the truth. These 19th century tales, from the American Civil War, are brought to life in this recording, by master storyteller Jim Weiss:

  • "Shouting Against the Wind: The Story of Sarah and Angelina Grimke"
  • "Not Quite Like Anyone Else: The Story of Lottie and Ginnie Moon"
  • "Turning the Tide: The Story of Anna Ella Carroll"
  • "Lifesaver: The Story of Sallie Tompkins"
  • "Appareled in Honor: The Story of Dr. Mary Edwards Walker"
  • "They Called Her Moses: The Story of Harriet Tubman"

I love everything I have listened to by Jim Weiss so far and this is no exception, except that these are true stories and therefore that much more interesting and inspiring. admittedly, I have listened to a few other of Jim's true stories- of history and science, but I think this might be my favorite. I do love American history, though, and tales of courage and this has both. this is mom reviewing, but my teen daughters and tween son also enjoyed this very much right along with me! short stories, great for a road trip or trip across town or even just those with short attention spans. I do not recall there being anything that would make this inappropriate for very young children as well (but I do think on Jim Weiss' website there are age recommendations for each of his recordings??)

another great by Jim Weiss
