Sometimes a chill…
Has nothing to do with the weather.
It’s the tail end of summer, and things are finally getting back to normal in Granite. The dental clinic is finished being rebuilt after the fire, and amateur sleuth and dog trainer, Eve, can finally get back to her old routine.
With more time on her plate, she intends to focus on her dogs’ training with renewed vigor – a plan that coincides perfectly with a local independent journalist’s request for some footage of her training her search and rescue dogs.
During their first outing, the reporter, April, asks Eve for a personal favor. Her grandmother’s friend went missing at the local nursing home, and the staff is being less than forthcoming. They claim her family picked her up, but according to April’s grandmother, the woman had no family. She thinks the elderly woman might have wandered off the property, and the nursing home is trying to cover their tracks.
Eve agrees to search for the missing woman with Willow, but there’s no trail to be found. Things take a dark turn when a tragedy is discovered. Eve and April are convinced that the nursing home is harboring a secret and they’re determined to work together to uncover it.
Can they solve the crime and root out the suspects?

Woof Times focuses on Eve and her live-find dog Willow, a 10 year old sable German Shepherd. When a news reporter, April, approaches Eve asking for help to find a missing person, Eve is hesitant at first, but ultimately decides to help. Rosemary was a friend of April's grandmother, Edith, and she went missing from the nursing home that Rosemary and Edith both lived in, hence April's request for help. I won't give away spoilers, but Eve and April team up with Edith to figure out the mystery. Ultimately, at the end, Edith and Willow saved the day.
This book, well series in general, is fast paced (around 100 pages only) and has a great start, middle and end. The climax is solving the mystery which is fun. I don't typically read mystery books, so I'm not the greatest guesser when it comes to figuring out the bad guy, so this kept me on my toes until the end. Also, I had the privilege of listening to and advanced copy of the audiobook, narrated by Julie McKay, and it's a 5 star audiobook. Julie perfectly changes her voice to match the characters she portrays. Her tone and inflection bring the characters to life. I will be adding this series to my catalog of palate cleansers to help me when I get in those monthly slumps.
Adorable with excellent narration
