I am a huge Chris Carter fan, but this last story just seemed to miss something. Don't get me wrong, it is good, but just not up to the standards I have come to expect from Chris' books.

Perhaps I shouldn't be too harsh, considering the terrible loss he suffered recently. It must have been really hard to pen a book whilst enduring such pain.

So, what was missing for me? I cannot quite put finger on it. Perhaps I just did not find the killer convincing, or was it the lack of pace. Carlos' character also seemed to have become a bit puny.

Not wanting to give away any spoilers, but the lead female character was rather annoying. I found myself at one stage wishing that she would.... let's leave it at that. For someone so supposedly smart, most of her actions were damn stupid. This led me to feel that the book was not as polished as some of previous ones in the series. It felt like a rush job.

While definitely the least enjoyable book in the series so far, it still isn't too bad. Hopefully Chris is already busy writing the next novel as he is still one of my favourite authors along with Tom Clancy.

Not quite as riveting as expected
