Discover the remarkable history of Yugoslavia.

What would become the nation of Yugoslavia was created in the turbulent period following the end of World War I in 1918, but ended 74 years later in the chaos of another war. In its relatively brief history, Yugoslavia endured invasion during World War II and a range of styles of leadership that included an autocratic king, an even more autocratic socialist dictator, as well as brief periods of parliamentary democracy.

Yet, the factor that would define and eventually destroy this nation was not its style of rule, but rather internal divisions based on ethnicity and religion. The creation of Yugoslavia was an attempt to draw together previously separate states with very different histories and cultures. Although these divisions were effectively suppressed for long periods of time, they never disappeared completely. Perhaps the real surprise isn’t that Yugoslavia eventually disintegrated but that it lasted as long as it did. This is the complex, often confusing, and violent story of the creation, history, and eventual fall of Yugoslavia.

Discover a plethora of topics such as:

  • The rise of Serbia.
  • The birth of Yugoslavia.
  • Yugoslavia during World War II.
  • Yugoslavia under Tito.
  • War in Yugoslavia.
  • The fall of Yugoslavia.

And much more!

The ethnic cleansing of German/French people in the transition to Yugoslavia was glossed over. I would like to learn more about what happened to these people.

Too short to really cover the heavy and hard topics.

I recently returned from the former Yugoslavian countries. I didn’t know much about their history, this helped me to understand a little more about their tumultuous history. Now my desire is to dive deeper and discover/learn more. While I visited, I noticed how different the people as a whole looked in the different countries and now I know I wasn’t imagining that. This was a great 101 beginner’s class and the tip of the iceberg or springboard to more comprehensive research.

So much information
