Uncertainty breeds panic. This has been especially true as we have navigated the world of Covid. For Stephaine the uncertainty played into her existing anxiety and made the last few months of pregnancy unbearable.

Stephaine was already working from home, so the world shutting down didn’t change much for her in that way. But as she got closer and closer to delivery, her friends and family kept asking questions that she didn’t have answers for. 

She’d already scheduled a c-section because she was scared of trying to deliver vaginally. Her mother had a very traumatic experience and she didn’t want to chance having the same. The question then became, because it wasn’t medically necessary, would she be able to have her c-section? 

Would the hospitals even be admitting? Would she have to birth at home? 

All of these questions caused her anxiety to spike and she spent the last few months of her pregnancy in constant fear. She ended up having her birth plan play out just as planned. Then postpartum was a breeze.

Can you imagine being told you may have to birth your baby at home, telephonically? Colleen didn’t have to experience that but some of the expecting moms in her circle did. Thank goodness she knew her rights, but her birth was anything but easy. 

Colleen works in the restaurant industry and her husband is a firefighter. They are both considered essential workers. During her pregnancy, Colleen traveled and when she returned home she found out she was Covid positive. 

Essentially it felt like a cold on steroids and luckily, this was prior to the hysteria that surrounded/surrounds the Covid pandemic. Rather than freaking out about the disease, she decided to stay calm and focused for her and the life of her unborn child. 

However, when it came to birthing her beautiful baby, things were a tad chaotic. From the number of hours she was allowed to labor, to the skill level of the nurses attending her, there were some issues.

Luckily, she and her baby came through the experience happy and healthy.

I think at this point we can all agree that no two people have had a similar experience with Covid. This pandemic has rocked the bedrock of some of the most foundational beliefs we have. Listen as Amanda shares her story of having to deal with not one, but two hospitalizations during Covid. 

Amanda and her husband were completing fertility treatments prior to finding out they were pregnant. In fact, they didn’t think it was even possible that she was pregnant at first, but luckily, it’d finally happened. 

Fast-forward several months and her husband found out that he had multiple hernias and it was imperative that they be corrected as soon as possible. This was just before hospitals began limiting the surgeries that they scheduled. In fact, his was one of the last elective surgeries to be performed at their hospital.

In the meantime, their parents were getting their shots and taking precautions so they’d be able to help with their new grandbaby. 

By the time Amanda had her baby, everyone was masking, the state was locked down, and she was getting more and more nervous by the day. All of the doctors and nurses were in full-scale PPE. She even had to labor through a mask.

Thank goodness for home visits during her postpartum period.

Emmy’s pregnancy wasn’t the easiest in the world, but this time it wasn’t due to the pandemic. This was Emmy’s second child and her second high risk pregnancy. In fact, she had her sweet little girl just before the world shut down. Unfortunately, she still had to deal with Covid. 

Just after delivery Emmy’s little girl was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition. They soon found out that she would need surgery to correct the condition and they were right back in the hospital. 

Things didn’t seem too much different at first, but shortly after their daughter’s surgery, lockdowns started to happen. To say that she was excited about having home visits would be an understatement. 

In fact, the team of specialists who repaired her daughter’s heart were surprised in a very good way to hear that Emmy and her baby wouldn’t have to be out in public.

There was nothing else. Everyone needs to know about in-home postpartum care. At least that’s what Caitlin believes. When she was pregnant with her second child she knew that she wanted a different experience. Listen in to hear her story. 

With her first child, Caitlin thought being a former fitness instructor who’d worked out all through her pregnancy meant she’d have an easy postpartum experience. Instead she found herself tired and suffering through the anxiety and uncertainty that comes with the postpartum experience.

To go from not being sure you wanted to have a baby, to finally thinking now was the time, to being plopped into the middle of a pandemic would be a lot for anyone. Meagan had been struggling with anxiety and depression and surprisingly, despite the hardships, had an amazing pregnancy. 

Meagan never really pictured herself as a mom. However when her mom moved back to her area, she knew that it was the right time to try. After stopping all birth control, she was told it would take a while to get pregnant, but after one cycle, the test said positive. 

She was pretty surprised despite the fact that they were trying. Her anxiety however did not spike. She managed her emotions and kept herself steady because she knew another life was depending on her to do it. 

When Covid became a reality her entire plan went out the window. Slowly but surely her family started moving out of the area and everything she had envisioned for her birth was turned on its head.

It didn’t seem like it was going to be all that bad! Lauren had her beautiful baby boy right as our area began to shut down. But she wasn’t at all prepared for how Covid impacted her postpartum journey. Listen as she shares her story and why she’s so happy she invested in NayaCare for her postpartum care. 

Lauren and her husband were told that it may take a while for them to get pregnant. They began trying right after they got married, and surprise! In month one they had a positive pregnancy test. 

Her pregnancy went great. No crazy symptoms or issues. Then as she prepared to go into the hospital, things started to go sideways. 

She was supposed to have the support of her mom and her mother-in-law, but they weren’t allowed at the hospital. Her husband was allowed to be there, unmasked, but she had to labor with a mask on. 

The biggest challenge however came when they finally got home with their precious bundle. Their support system couldn’t be there to help them out. Colorado was completely locked down at that time, so they couldn’t receive visitors. 

One thing that went right however was not having to go anywhere else for their appointments. Her home visits were a life saver.

Now that her family has been able to see their little one and they’ve been able to go out, things are looking up. She wishes she’d had those little moments earlier, but she’s soaking them up and so grateful to appreciate them to the fullest.
