Today I sat down with Talia Smith, a young woman whose life changed forever after taking Cipro, a commonly prescribed antibiotic for urinary tract infections. While caring for her quadriplegic husband, she suddenly became so severely injured by this medication that she ended up in hospice and was given only three weeks to live.
Talia went four weeks without being able to eat. She could not drink, walk, or care for herself in any way. She survived the impossible and came back from the brink of death, but she still requires round-the-clock palliative care. She cannot walk, she struggles with daily tasks, and yet she has become a powerful advocate raising awareness about the dangers of fluoroquinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin.
Her story is a cautionary tale for everyone. These medications are harming people around the world, often without warning.
