  • Episode 3: A Mexican Farewell
    Feb 24 2026

In this episode, Lisa, a listener from CA, takes us with her to the loving assisted living home - in Mexico - where her mother lived. I muse on how "logistics and problem-solving, beauty and grief often swirl together" as we accompany parents into old age and how Lisa's story helped change my thinking about death.

Thanks (again) to Molly Flannery for the music!

  • Episode 2: The Prequel to Bring in the Bird
    Jan 27 2025

This episode tells the story of why I started this podcast and answers the age-old question: why is it called "Bring in the Bird"? You'll hear a bit from Kemper C. of Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst, Massachusetts who actually inspired the show's title.

Thanks so much to Kemper C. (Leverett, MA) for the interview and to Airtone for the bird song-tune (from https://ccmixter.org).

  • Episode 1: Where Is Love?
    Jan 27 2025

Welcome to the first episode of this storysharing podcast for, and about, people caring for aging parents. I want this to be a show that includes many voices, not only my mom's and mine, So, as an experiment, I sent a few friends a short recording I made after spending a day with my mom. And I asked them to send me a recording related to a recent experience with their parent(s). Many thanks to the storysharers included here: Lisa H. (Oakland, CA); Lorilyn P. (Sacramento, CA); and Julie R. (Northampton, MA). You confirmed for me that there are MANY stories out there and MANY folks who want to both share and listen. Onward ho!

Thanks so much to Jenn L. for the gorgeous artwork (based on a photo I took of my mom and me on a winter walk).

Also, so much appreciation to Molly Flannery for the improvised piano accompaniment and Airtone for the hip bird sounds.
