Theodore Roosevelt is often associated with the warrior archetype as described in King, Warrior, Magician Lover by Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette. There are a great many examples of Roosevelt’s warrior-like inclinations. His heroics in the Spanish-American War are the stuff of legend, and his bloodlust as an outdoorsman is equally as well understood. While those are certainly great examples, a careful examination of Roosevelt’s life reveals even more compelling examples.
With an eye toward connecting Moore’s and Gillette’s description of the archetypal warrior as someone who is “concerned with skill, power, and accuracy, and with control, both inner and outer, psychological and physical,” let’s consider a few examples, both widely acknowledged and lesser known, of Roosevelt the warrior.
