Tara Calico, a vibrant 19-year-old from Belen, New Mexico, was a young woman on the cusp of her future. Known for her infectious smile and sharp mind, the college student balanced her studies with an active social life and a passion for fitness. Her disciplined nature was reflected in her daily routines, one of which would lead to a mystery that has haunted her community for decades.
On the morning of September 20, 1988, Tara set out for her regular bike ride along Highway 47, a scenic but isolated road. Riding her mother's neon pink Huffy bicycle, she promised to be home by noon for a tennis match. But noon came and went with no sign of Tara. Her mother, Patty Doel, drove the familiar route, her concern mounting with each passing mile. Along the roadside, she found fragments of Tara's belongings—a tragic trail of breadcrumbs hinting that something terrible had occurred. A relentless search began, but the answers to Tara's disappearance would remain heartbreakingly out of reach.
