As we’ve been saying for YEARS, the Pittsburgh Penguins are the Lords Of The Shootout, striking fear into the hearts of any opposing team’s goaltender.. etc, etc.

We kid, we kid. Back-to-back shootout victories for your Pittsburgh Penguins are of course unheard of and downright unexpected - but the Steel City’s flagship hockey club managed the feat nonetheless, besting ace goaler, Linus Ullmark for a massive 2-point party in the capital of Canada. As of today’s posting (Fri March 27, 2026) the Penguins are in sole possession of 2nd place in the Metropolitan division.

Olympic Hangover 02/23/26

Sidney Crosby played well in the Milan Cortina Olympic prelims, then sustained a serious lower body injury in Team Canada’s quarterfinal game against Czechia. Team USA ultimately won gold in dramatic OT fashion, with NJD’s Jack Hughes netting the deciding tally.

The Penguins are back in action on home ice, this Thursday against Hughes’s NHL squad, followed by a Saturday visit to MSG and the reigning gold medal-winning HC, former PIT bench boss Mike Sullivan.

Jeff Taylor and Jordan DeFigio talk through the Pittsburgh Penguins’ recent, inevitable “cooling-off,” following one of the hottest starts the NHL has seen this season. Most recently, the team has gone on a tepid 1-3-1 run, during which time they generally continued to play well. Results matter, though and over the past five games the Penguins have mostly failed at gaining two points on a given night.

Sergei Murashov’s stellar NHL debut - a loss on home ice to the LA Kings - was as promising a preview of the young Russian goaltender’s NHL career as a serious hockey fan could have hoped for. Jordan and Jeff discuss the Pens’ recent back-to-back matchups against the Devils and Kings, with a special focus on Murashov’s performance.

Cody Hodgson and The RYR-1 Foundation 11/11/25

Diagnosed in 2016 with RYR-1-related malignant hyperthermia, Cody Hodgson’s promising NHL playing career was cut short when the effects of his disease made it impossible for him to push his body to the extent necessary in pro hockey. However, what initially looked like a major setback gave way to a very different, equally powerful calling. Now an active ambassador for the Pittsburgh, PA-based RYR-1 Foundation, Hodgson is precisely the kind of figure in the hockey world that our production staff loves connecting with.

With mobile recording gear in tow, our producer and co-host, Jeff Taylor recently joined the RYR-1 Foundation in Pittsburgh for their 10th anniversary conference. A handful of in-depth interviews were conducted that day, including with former NHL’er Cody Hodgson himself, as well as Toronto-based anesthesiologist Dr. Sheila Riazi, Hodgson’s diagnosing physician.
