  • Is It True? If I Don’t Punish, I’m Permissive (with Myleik Teele)
    Mar 24 2026

Your kid is melting down in public… and you feel it:

“If I don’t shut this down, I'm a pushover. My kid will walk all over me."

In this first episode of our new Is It True? series, Dr. Becky and Myleik Teele take a closer look at a belief so many parents carry, though rarely question:

    If I don’t punish, I'm being permissive.

Together, they unpack what’s underneath that fear, why punishment can feel so satisfying (and why it often doesn’t work), and what it actually looks like to hold boundaries without being harsh or permissive.

They also explore how this question lands differently for Black parents, where the stakes of “not listening” can feel much higher.

This is the first in a recurring format we’ll revisit, slowing down common parenting beliefs and expanding them into something sturdier, more usable, and more true.

And once you've listened, visit the Good Inside blog where Dr. Becky shares some examples of "same team leadership."

  • A Tween Parenting Shift for the AI Era (Introducing The In-Between Years)
    Mar 17 2026

If you’re parenting right now, it can feel like the world your kids are growing up in is changing faster than you can understand it. AI. Social media. Phones. New technology showing up everywhere. And many parents are wondering the same thing: How am I supposed to guide my kids through something I barely understand myself?

Today, we're sharing a short clip from a new Good Inside podcast called The In-Between Years, hosted by clinical psychologist Dr. Sheryl Ziegler. Each week on the show, Dr. Sheryl talks with real parents about the questions that start showing up during the tween and teen years — the moments that feel confusing, scary, or totally new. In this conversation, a mom of a 9-year-old admits something many parents feel right now: AI feels like the big bad wolf and she has no idea how to talk about it with her kids. What Dr. Sheryl says next reframes the entire problem. If you have a tween or teen — or you know those years are coming — I think you’re going to love The In-Between Years.

This was an enlightening episode, fascinating, really! We all do have different voices and I loved how we can ask our calm self to stay. Things go better when that self stays. When we are sick or tired and do or say things we regret it is very important to repair! Go back apologize and tell them how you wished you would have handled it. I also loved how you praised the mom that was just present with her child.

Wow! The Voices in our Head!

I am a parent coach myself and the father of four year old twin boys. I have read lots of books about parenting young children and have appreciated the value of many parenting “experts.” Listening (binging) to Dr.Becky over the last month has solidified many of my ideas and really helped me with lots of practical ideas to support my children. She covers it all. Nervous system regulation, boundaries, emotional validation and does this while affirming the emotional toll that comes with being a parent. I bow to Dr. Becky’s insight and creative, honest exploration of her own parenting process. I listened to these podcasts while riding my bike to work and there were many times I was pumping my fists in the air knowing that other parents are learning these skills and helping to create a healthier future for their children. Thank you Dr. Becky.

The best parenting advice available.

“Parenting is so easy!” said no one ever... and PS, there is no handbook... until now. Dr. Becky is my go to source for parenting techniques and I swear by her golden nuggets of practical and realistic advice. I even catch my own “self talk” shifting from a place of shame and blame to curiosity and nurturing. She is a total family game changer. I am a huge HUGE fan and highly recommend this podcast, her IG, workshop and anything else! Thank you for including us in your journey, Dr. Becky! You are such an inspiration!

Hands down, Dr. Becky is EVERYTHING!
