Welcome to the LOVE Works podcast. My name is Chris Duncan and my wife, Jennifer, and I are marriage coaches and ministers in our local church. We’ve been married for over 20 years and have 6 wonderful children. Over the years, we’ve experienced infertility, miscarriages, become parents, had career changes, fostered children, and adopted triplets, which among many other life experiences, have helped to shape us, our marriage, and our family. We hope to share some of the things we’ve learned to help others with their journey to have a successful marriage and strong family, while keeping focus on our faith as a guide. Thanks for listening and always remember Love Works, so let’s get to work.

Marriage doesn’t start with two perfect people—it often starts with two stories, and sometimes those stories include trauma.

In this episode of “When ‘I Do’ Becomes ‘I Did,” we’re talking about what it looks like to build a healthy, thriving marriage when past wounds are still present. We unpack how trauma affects communication, trust, and emotional connection—and most importantly, how healing is possible.

If you or your spouse have ever struggled with triggers, fear, or emotional walls, this conversation will give you practical tools and hope for the journey ahead.

In this episode of Love Works Podcast, we kick off our new series, “When ‘I Do’ Becomes ‘I Did’.”

Marriage doesn’t usually fall apart in one dramatic moment. More often, it drifts quietly—especially after children enter the picture.

Kids are a blessing. But they also bring exhaustion, schedule overload, stress, and survival mode. And if you’re not careful, you can go from partners to coworkers in the business of raising kids.

In today’s conversation, we talk about:

    • The shift no one prepares you for after children
    • Why “I do” can start to feel like “I did”
    • How emotional drift happens (even when love is still there)
    • Practical ways to reconnect in the middle of busy family life
    • A simple spiritual reset for married couples

    If you’ve ever thought,
    “I still love you… I’m just tired,”
    this episode is for you.

Marriage isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. And presence is a choice we get to make again today.
