• Oh my God, it's him! Enemy of the State
    Mar 4 2026
The Oddjob crew have emerged from the Action Movie Landfill clutching another nineties classic. Enemy of the State (1998) is a Washington DC political thriller about a rogue cell within the NSA who are on the hunt for a lawyer who has accidentally come into possession of a tape that incriminates a senior NSA figure (Jon Voight) in the murder of a senator.

The film's principle theme is about the politics of surveillance and the limits of personal freedom in a democracy. The film co-stars Gene Hackman who also starred in a similarly themed film called The Conversation (1974) and there are direct call-backs to this film in Enemy of the State

The film also boasts one of the greatest cameo appearances in the history of cinema.

  • Celebrating Goldeneye 007
    Feb 4 2026

Want to feel old? Last year the Goldeneye 007 video game for the N64 turned 30 years old.

This game is and remains one of the most celebrated James Bond games ever and represented a breakthrough for Nintendo and in first person shoot-em-ups.

In this episode of the OddJob Pod, Gary, Graham and Terry share our own personal recollections of Goldeneye 007 and explore its legacy. We also talk about the broader 007 gaming universe, what Bond movies we'd want to see adapted as a game and in which direction the James Bond games could go with some interesting speculations.

  • AML: The Master Of The Podcast Rope-A-Dope
    Aug 30 2025

Gary, Terry, and Graham are back with another edition of Action Movie Landfill. This time, Gary has dragged out John Woo’s 1996 nuclear heist thriller, Broken Arrow.

Woo arrived in Hollywood with a reputation for high-octane Hong Kong action movies, and just a year later he’d cement his legacy with the classic Face/Off, once again teaming up with John Travolta. But how much does Broken Arrow serve as a warm-up for Face/Off — or is the stronger link to screenwriter Graham Yost, the man who wrote the script for Speed?

For just over an hour, the gang rummage through desert chases, pantomime villainy, Hans Zimmer guitar riffs, and the question of whether this film belongs in the landfill.

  • Old gags and deadbeat dads - Casino Royale (1967)
    Apr 29 2025

After reacting to the news that control of the James Bond movies franchise we spend some time on the 1967 screwball comedy adaptation of Casino Royale, a film that sits outside the official franchise and is not received with universal acclaim.

Gary, Graham and Terry reflect on the film's troubled production which featured an all star cast but has 5 (five) directors.

  • Action Movie Landfill - The Rock
    Feb 8 2025

The Oddjob Pod returns with another edition of the Action Movie Landfill.
On each episode of the Landfil, Gary, Graham and Terry fish out a DVD from the vast, imaginary pile of action movies from the sell-thriugh era and decide of they shoud be placed on the shelf or returned to the Landfill.
In this edition we have unearthed Michael Bay's The Rock starring Ed Harris, Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery. Many Bond fans have looked at Connery's character, John Mason; a retired SAS officer incarcertaed in the US for 30 years and wonder if this Mason is an alternative unuverse James Bond. The film makers have been at pains to deny this.
In any event it is a film with much to admire and the Oddjob Pod trio spend a happy hour and a half ruminating on this 90s classic.

    Dec 25 2024

To celebrate Christmas 2024 Gary, Terry and Graham gathered to record a very special musical podcast. Don't worry we don't do that much singing, we leave that to the professionals.
In this episode the Oddjob Pod team imagine that they are stranded on a desert island with just six pieces of music from the James Bond films to keep them company while they await rescue or succumb to the anaconda nymph women.
Which tracks shall we choose? Listen to the podcast and find out. You can also check out Gary, Graham and Terry's picks on our YouTube channel.

  • The Five Stages of Grief - No Time To Die
    Jun 30 2024

Our film-by-film review of all the Eon-produced James Bond films comes to a close with the latest release, the 2019 film No Time To Die, which was delayed until 2021 due to the pandemic lockdown.

Given its denouement, this film takes a somewhat darker tone the closer it gets to the conclusion. As Graham says, "It's not your typical ITV4 James Bond film." Like all Daniel Craig Bond films, this one has an emotional depth that is usually absent in earlier entries.

Given the uncertainty of the future of the character and the longevity of the intellectual property, we find ourselves wondering what will become of the franchise and ask ourselves: will James Bond return?
