  • Post Box Topper delights town but is sometimes damaged
    Mar 25 2026

Lorraine Bird had hoped for anonymity when she decorated a post box but was soon known - the power of Facebook, she says.

The knitted and crocheted topical decorations (and there is a technical skill difference!) delight people in the town, especiaily children.

She knows the rules about displays and puts them up during daylight, unlike some of her Topper Peers.

She talks to Mike Waddington about it all and there has been occasional damage or features - like the Queen's corgis - taken; but she is unperturbed.

Despite being pressed she would not reveal the next one - already on the needles!

  • Mental health films for young people and families
    Mar 24 2026

Hampshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health services – called CAHMS - are provided by Hampshire & IOW Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - who also run Petersfield Hospital - sometimes getting 250 referrals a week.

They produce many films – brief, jargon free and to the point – to help young people and families around mental wellbeing.

Their latest is about anxiety and Emotionally Based Schools Avoidance – known as EBSA.

Mia, who works in CAMHS, is in the film and tells Mike Waddington more about practical steps families can take now.

Emily, also from CAMHS, speaks about ADHD, not over diagnosed in her view, but also how these films are practical assistance in line with NICE guidelines and also an aide to memory.

The EBSA film is here: Risk factors for Emotionally Based School Avoidance – CAMHS
