Your host, Mike King, brings over four decades of experience in criminal justice and behavioral analysis. A retired law enforcement executive, Mike served as Chief of Staff to Utah Attorney General Jan Graham and Weber County Attorney Reed M. Richards. He began his career at the Ogden Police Department, where he worked patrol, motor enforcement, and SWAT before moving into investigations where he led task forces that hunted serial predators and violent offenders.

Mike’s expertise earned him national recognition. He served as co-chair of the FBI’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP) National Advisory Board, directed UTAP, the Utah Criminal Tracking and Analysis Project, and supported intelligence operations during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.

After retiring from public service, Mike joined the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), where he spent years consulting with police agencies around the globe on intelligence gathering, emergency communications, and major event management. In 2024, he retired again, this time to focus full-time on Profiling Evil and its growing community of true crime investigators, students, and enthusiasts.

Mike is an internationally recognized speaker, trainer, and adjunct professor, as well as a visiting scholar at multiple universities. He’s authored several acclaimed works on crime and human behavior, including:

    This episode walks through the most recent, publicly reported developments in the Nancy Guthrie case, and explains why wild speculation can damage real investigations. I’m joined by three cops, #KennyKinsey #PaulVernon and #FilWaters. A neighbor has described seeing a “suspicious man” in the area weeks before Nancy disappeared, and says she shared that information with the FBI, who at first didn’t know the contact happened. Investigators are also examining a damaged utility box near Nancy’s home that could relate to reported internet disruptions and missing or disrupted surveillance footage.

    At the same time, the “Wi-Fi jammer” theory has become a headline. Some reporting explains what jamming is, why it’s illegal, and why many outages still end up being routine tech failures, but it all became modus operandi before it was vetted and discounted. Another major reset, authorities said gloves found 2 miles from the crime scene, but it still became a focal point. It was traced through DNA to a local restaurant worker who is not connected to the case. All these diversions are a reminder that “found” does not mean “linked.” Is the continuous media frenzy and social content rush leading to conspiracy theories and investigative noisemaking? We all want to know the answer, and I fear we’re just creating worthless news?

As someone not in law enforcement, I appreciate how Mr. King explains the legal requirements to solve a case. I enjoy learning about these cases in a factual presentation rather than a more dramatic presentation. Mr. King's personality comes through in the conversations. The interviews flow and the listener (in my opinion) gets the impression that the guest and Mr. King have been friends or associates for a length of time. This genuine quality comes through in both these podcasts and the YouTube presentations. I hope y'all like it!
