Nehemiah 2:17 – “Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.”
The Picture of This Broken Wall
When Nehemiah looked upon the city of Jerusalem, he saw ruins where strength used to stand. The walls were down, the gates were burned, and the people were living in shame.
The city without walls was vulnerable to every enemy, it was exposed to danger, and unable to stand with any dignity.
But, Nehemiah’s words were not just about stones and mortar, they were about restoring identity, honor, and hope to God’s people.
