Most people know Gene Roddenberry as the creator of Star Trek - a visionary who imagined humanity exploring the galaxy and encountering alien civilizations.

But very few people know that in the 1970s, Roddenberry became involved in a series of real-life psychic experiments attempting to communicate with a mysterious group of entities known only as “The Nine.”

These sessions, conducted with psychic medium Phyllis Schlemmer and Parapsychologist Andrija Puharich, produced dozens of hours of recorded conversations with something claiming to represent a group of ancient intelligences connected to the origins of humanity.

Roddenberry attended several of these session - and the experience inspired a script he later wrote about the phenomenon.

Few people know that a feature film script was developed - and even fewer know that one of the key writers behind it was screenwriter Jon Povill.

Jon Povill is a respected Hollywood writer and producer whose career includes work on major science fiction projects and contributions to films like Total Recall, along with extensive work in television and development alongside Gene Roddenberry.

In this rare and candid interview, Povill reflects on his collaboration with Roddenberry, the origins of the “Nine” script, and the long effort to develop the project from the 1970s into the 1990s. The director of 1989s "Communion" was at one point attached. Even the legendary Hans Zimmer was in the mix.

In 1977, British author Stuart Holroyd released a little-known but extraordinary book titled Prelude to the Landing on Planet Earth. Part travelogue, part philosophical inquiry, the book documents his firsthand time inside one of the strangest spiritual experiments of the 20th century.
