My kids were supposed to be writing about eagles. They were playing thumb war. And I was standing in the kitchen, breath shallow, mental list running, every cell in my body pointed at the to-do list—when my nine-year-old walked over, took my arms, and led me through a breath like she'd been doing it her whole life.
