There’s a problem with True Crime. Creators idolize perpetrators, shame victims, or are completely checked out on cases while they focus on other things. However, we can’t forget there are victims who lost their lives and families who are still grieving to this day. Furthermore, many True Crime outlets spend their time focusing on themselves or rambling, instead of getting right to the facts of the case. We hear you, this is frustrating. The Misery Machine focuses on cases the media fails to give proper attention to. We want to help give those a voice that never got to have one, to begin with. We also cover aspects of cases that other podcasts might look the other way on, and the way that these cases impact their communities for generations.     This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Switzerland to discuss the case of 38-year-old Kristina Joksimovic, a 38-year-old former model and Miss Switzerland finalist who was found dead in her home in Binningen, near Basel, in February 2024. In December 2025, her husband, Marc Rieben, was formally charged with her murder following a detailed investigation that revealed exceptionally gruesome details about the crime. An autopsy report concluded she was strangled, and forensic evidence contradicted her husband's initial claim that he acted in self-defense after she allegedly attacked him with a knife. However, authorities revealed that after the murder, Marc allegedly dismembered Kristina's body using a jigsaw, garden shears, and a knife. He then allegedly used a hand blender to "puree" parts of her remains and dissolved them in a chemical solution in an attempt to dispose of the evidence.

    This week, Drewby and Yergy discuss the case of Antron Singleton, more commonly known as Big Lurch, an up-and-coming figure in the horrorcore and gangsta rap scenes. In April 2002, while under the heavy influence of PCP, Big Lurch murdered his 21-year-old roommate, Tynisha Ysais, in her apartment in Los Angeles, California. Police found Big Lurch naked and covered in blood, wandering the street, while Tynisha's body was discovered with her chest torn open and her right lung removed. In addition, medical examiners found human flesh in Big Lurch's stomach that did not belong to him.

    This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Queens, New York, to discuss the case of 3-year-old Autumn Coleman, also known as Zoey Pereira. On the night of May 5th, 2019, first responders found a burning Audi sedan near Baisley Boulevard and 155th Street in Springfield Gardens, Queens. Autumn was strapped into a car seat in the back of the vehicle. To prevent her escape or rescue, her father, Martin "Tony" Pereira, had doused the car in gasoline and chained the rear doors shut from the inside. Investigators also found propane tanks and gas canisters intended to fuel the fire. Firefighters managed to pull Autumn from the wreckage after the heat from the flames melted the door handle, allowing them to break through the chains. She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center but died shortly after from severe burns and smoke inhalation. Hours before the murder, Tony reportedly called Autumn's mother, Cherone Coleman, and told her, "You’ll never see your daughter again."
