The NHL Eastern Conference is an absolute blood bath like we haven't seen it before as so many teams are so close and any matchups within the conference could potentially be 4 point swings. The Capitals have surprisingly stayed in the fight after losing Nic Dowd and John Carlson.

A big part of that is that Cole Hutson has made his Washington Capitals debut and has been getting healthy minutes throughout his first week with the team. In his first game he earned an empty netter and has been dazzling to watch.

There's been a good bit of league news post trade deadline. A few players have been under the scrutiny of the NHL Department of Player Safety. Also, there have been some big injuries, namely for the Toronto Maple Leafs who are losing Auston Matthews for the rest of the season after a hit from Radko Gudas.

We'll also have a few updates internationally as the Men's Sled Hockey team won gold over Canada.

This week has been tough on and off the ice for the Caps. They didn't win either of their games nor did they secure a single point out of the week.

To make things worse, they traded fan favorite Nic Dowd and Washington Capitals legend John Carlson. Dowd went to the Vegas Golden Knights and Carlson went to the Anaheim Ducks. Both players will provide a huge improvement to each of those teams but they will be sorely missed.

This NHL Trade Deadline was definitely a sellers market and the Capitals did return a ton of assets for those 2 marquee players but it begs the question: are we done with this season?
