    Judges: Returning to God

Episode 7: “When You Get What You Want” (Judges 9)

Israel keeps falling further and further into rebellion and amnesia with God. God raises up Abimelech, not as a judge but as an “anti-judge” who would make himself king. The oppression of Israel doesn’t come from without but from within. This time, God’s judgment on Israel is to give them exactly what they want. In this story, we see the horror of God’s “yes.”

Under the faithful leadership of Joshua, the Israelites entered the land God had promised to give them. Yet it did not take long for them to forget the LORD and the mighty works He had done on their behalf. Galatians: The Gospel = Jesus + Nothing

The good news of Jesus was under attack in Galatia Some were perverting the gospel not by denying Jesus but by diminishing him. Paul tells these early Christians that all they need—and could ever need—is the good news of grace given to them through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. The gospel of grace isn’t just the only way to enter the kingdom; it is the way to live in and live out the implications of the gospel.
