    Mar 30 2026

    Summary:

Three days into his second extension of the 48-hour deadline set on March 21 for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, the strait is still closed, Trump continues to claim he is close to a deal, but Iran says U.S. proposals received through intermediaries are ‘unrealistic.’ There appears to be only one way out of this conflict, and the empire won’t like it.

  • Episode 228 Iran Calls Trump's Bluff; The Donald Responds with Another
    Mar 24 2026

    Summary:

On Saturday, President Trump gave Iran 48 hours to open the Strait of Hormuz or the U.S. military would destroy Iran’s energy infrastructure, beginning with the largest site first. Iran responded that if so attacked they would destroy the energy infrastructure and vital desalinization plants of the GCC. Monday came and Trump backed off, saying there had been productive talks with Iran. He issued a new five-day timeframe. Iran denied the talks occurred and raised him: they’re not interested in talking anymore. So, the clock ticks on another Trump ultimatum.

  • Episode 227 Trump's Strait of Hormuz Argument Is Dumb, Dishonest, or Both
    Mar 18 2026

    Summary:

Evidence continues to mount that the Trump administration launched the Iran War with no plan to deal with the consequences countless experts predicted if Iran were attacked. Apparently unable to reopen the Strait of Hormuz unilaterally, Trump now claims its closure is really Europe’s and Asia’s problem because the U.S. doesn’t import much oil that travels through the strait. His argument is dumb, dishonest, or both.

  • Episode 226 War, Taxation, Regulation, and the Political Means
    Mar 11 2026

    Summary:

Trump certainly isn’t the first politician who campaigned hard on an issue and then did precisely the opposite once in office. It’s so regular an occurrence that people construct elaborate theories for why politicians and other government officials do the things they do. Tom suggests looking at all political issues through the prism created by Franz Oppenheimer’s classic book, The State, Its History and Development Viewed Sociologically.

  • Episode 225 The Iran War Multiverse
    Mar 10 2026

    Summary:

The Trump administration has maintained the U.S. military has been wildly successful in the opening days of the Iran War. It claims to have destroyed 80%-90% of Iran’s missile capabilities and is close to victory. The war’s critics paint precisely the opposite picture. They claim U.S. bases in the region have been largely destroyed or rendered inoperable and the U.S. is close to running out of defensive missiles. Which story is true? Both? Netiher? Tom tries to sort it out.

  • Episode 224 The bogus arguments for presidential war powers
    Mar 6 2026

    Summary:

President Trump has attacked Iran without a declaration of war by Congress or even a congressional authorization to use military force. Like its predecessors, the Trump administration justifies its actions with bogus claims about the declaration of war power, executive war powers, and the mythical “separate and coequal” branches of government created by the U.S. Constitution. Tom debunks all of the above using primary source material.

  • Episode 223 Iran Won't Go Quietly with Col. Douglas Macgregor
    Mar 4 2026

    Summary:

After another military buildup on Iran’s doorstep, the Trump administration suddenly changed the terms of the negotiation to an offer Iran could not accept. It then launched an air attack coordinated with Israel on Iran that the administration says could last weeks, although the objectives seem very open ended. And despite hoorahs all around from members of the administration and its supporters, Iran is refusing to go quietly into that good night. Colonel Douglas Macgregor joins Tom to discuss.

Guest Bio: Colonel Macgregor is widely known inside the U.S., Europe, Israel, Russia, China and Korea for both his leadership in the Battle of 73 Easting, the U.S. Army’s largest tank battle since World War II, and for his groundbreaking books on military transformation: Breaking the Phalanx and Transformation under Fire. He holds an MA in comparative politics and a PhD in international relations from the University of Virginia and has taught at West Point In 2020, the President appointed Macgregor to serve as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense, a post he held until President Trump left office.
