Israeli Defense Minister Katz announced yesterday that Israel plans to occupy southern Lebanon up to the Litani River — an area that would amount to nearly a tenth of Lebanon. The Department of War will be deploying 3,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne to the Middle East, though officials repeated that no decision has yet been made to put American boots on the ground. The Synod on Synodality study group on polygamy released a report reiterating Catholic teaching on monogamy, repeating that the Church cannot baptize those who persist in polygamous unions. Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Parolin has told French bishops that Pope Leo XIV is “particularly attentive” to liturgy question & growth of Latin Mass groups, and urged the bishops to find “concrete solutions that will allow for the generous inclusion of those sincerely attached to” the TLM. The Taliban has freed American Dennis Coyle 14 months after his capture. He was held in captivity in Afghanistan. The University of Southern California canceled a gubernatorial debate because of outrage that the candidates were all white.
