What happens when life starts “lifing” and things don’t go according to plan? In this powerful and honest message, What We Don’t Trust We’ll Try to Control, we are reminded that the more life feels unpredictable, the more we attempt to control what was never ours to manage. From overthinking and overplanning to struggling with flexibility and trust, this sermon exposes how control often masks deeper issues of fear and broken trust. But here’s the truth: people may fail us, situations may shift, and life may feel uncertain, but none of that has the power to disrupt God’s presence or His good plan for our lives.
Grounded in Lamentations 3:22–23, we are reminded that while everything else may wear out and become unreliable, God’s mercy never does. Through the storms in Matthew 8 and the desperation in Mark 9, we see that peace is not found in control, but in surrender. Trying to control tomorrow only creates illusions that never produce real security. This message challenges us to release the need to have every detail figured out and instead trust the One who already holds it all together. Because at the end of the day, controlling others won’t give us the life we want, but trusting God will.
