You never know what's hiding under your bed....

At twenty-four, Cody has already lost hope of having a life of his own. All his time is spent playing nurse to a dying, spiteful stepfather and maid to his bully half-brother. His only escapes are playing his favorite online fantasy game, Black Oasis, and talking to the strange, unearthly presence under his bed that may or may not actually exist.

Everything changes when his nightly visitor, who introduces himself as Nor, starts talking back.

As their connection deepens, Nor invites Cody into the surreal world existing just beyond his nightmares, filled with haughty demons, passion-killing pet bugs named Gef, and a dark landscape that is oddly familiar. With his sweet but monstrous companion by his side, Cody might finally gain the life of freedom and adventure that he's always wanted.

Join Nor and Cody as they unearth the true meaning of hope, passion, and love of endless depths that spans between worlds in Whispers in the Dark, the first book in Knight and Mayne's co-authored queer, monster romance series, Black Oasis.

Whispers in the Dark is an M/M monster romance full of hurt/comfort, angst, humor, and sweet, spicy love between a redheaded Texan and his precious six-fingered Deepdweller. For mature listeners.

The book is way too long with very little story. I believe this has a lot of potential but the author seems to be fixated on the sexual relationships between the characters, So much so that there is very little world building and not really having an actual plot. I hope the next book will be better.

The best part of this book is the narration.

I loved this when I read the ebook, but the narration is just absolutely fantastic and made it that much better. I always love Michael Ferraiuolo, but I dont think I've heard his southern accent before. I'm not someone who can say if it was an accurate Texas accent or not, but I enjoyed his southern drawl throughout. Nor's voice kind of reminded me of Sunny from iRobot in a good way.

I love these characters, they are just so pure and perfect for each other. Cody's family dynamic could be triggering to some, in that he has to take care of his ailing and ungrateful father while being berated, and has a brother who probably molested him in the past. Nor is the only one who gives Cody love and support throughout. Cody's family is a bit dark, but the romance is fluffy and spicy.

Dark family dynamic, fluffy and spicy romance

While I always enjoy a steamy book, I feel like it’s an extra treat when character dialogue can get me the laugh out loud.

Genuinely funny

This is the sweetest story of a boy and the monster under his bed. I love it so much. It's like a Cinderella retelling. Nor is so damn sweet to Cody. I love how protective/possessive he is. And of course Cody is such a sweetheart. Lau cracks me up. I love how Nor is scared of Crumbs, and then we get to see his pov when Cody meets Gef. 😂
I listened to this and followed along reading through parts of it. I fecking love the narrator. Michael Ferraiuolo is the best. I love how he voices Cody. His accent is so damn sexy.

Loved it!
