Welcome to the masquerade.

Two thousand twenty was a reality horror show. And like most obnoxious entertainment reality shows, this one had its own idiosyncratic rules and penalties. Call it The Big Lockdown. We were forced to go to ground, to hide in our holes. Some went underground and never came back. Uncertainty ruled because the rules kept changing. Were we following the science or the mad scientists? Was the light at the end of the tunnel the fiery mouth of hell? We couldn’t say for sure, so we ventured out for food, booze and sundries like scavengers in a slow-motion apocalypse, keeping our distance from fellow human beings because you never knew who might be carrying that heavy viral load.

And everywhere we went, we went behind the mask. So, it became obvious: The theme of our offering of extreme horror tales from 2020 had to be masquerade.

Our masquerading storytellers nevertheless did what they do best. They went deep into the belly of the beast and sent up fictions reflective of these “trying” times. Their stories peel away the masks (or in some cases, the skin) to reveal the inner workings of darkest hearts and minds and deeper fears.

Maybe there was a demand to tone down the gore and violence. But still some good stories.

Decent but not as “hardcore” as past years

YEAR'S BEST HARDCORE HORROR VOLUME 6 is the first in the series by RANDY CHANDLER I have listened to. The stories are unique in their own right. Creepy, weird, and yes, at times , very hard core.

The book showcases some really weird stuff folks! I loved the stories for the most part, but be forewarned, the language and subject matter is not what would be called family friendly. If you can get past the hard core sex and some of the language you will have some really creepy short stories.
Cheryl May did the narration and did a fairly good job.

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

I’ve been diving hard into extreme horror fiction. In the past year I’ve read Harvest Night, Bighead, Hogg, Man Cave, Depraved, Full Brutal and more. This collection lives up to my expectations and was a hell of a ride. I bought another of the volumes I enjoyed this one so much.

Sooo much good?

Two of the stories in this book starts off with very poetry like Termanology. I couldn’t get into it so didn’t finish those two stories. One of the stores took forever to get to the point, but I can’t say the rest were pretty good and what I’ve come to expect from years best. I really wish they would go back to using the narrator from book 3. Not to say I don’t like this one but I really liked her voice. This narrator sounded like any moment she was going to go into sexual overload. I know some people like her but to each their own I’m sure she’s a nice person. So overall three of the stories are awash and the rest are pretty freaking good!

These stories are OK
