Alejandro Gudiño did not write his first book because he wanted to be a writer, but because there came a moment in his life when staying silent was no longer an option. Born in Mexico and now living in Canada, he spent years with the feeling that his life worked “on paper,” but not on the inside. Growing insecurity and the normalization of what should never be normal led him to one of the hardest decisions of his life: leaving his country to protect his family and seek a different future for his daughters. Alejandro writes about what is rarely told of in the migration process: fear, guilt, loss, and the emptiness that often comes with starting over. Through both memoir and fiction, his work explores migration, family, identity, and the cultural clash from an honest perspective, without easy promises. He lives in Canada with his wife and daughters, where he continues writing to accompany others, tell the truth, and remind readers that change is possible—even when it hurts.
