Anna Forrester loves nothing better than to stumble onto a great idea or question, then hold on tight as it leads her through books, her imagination, and unexpected nooks and crannies of the real world. Her forbearers include miners, geologists, bird watchers and an odd collection of black walnut tree (and nut) stewards -- all of whom she has to thank for the connection she feels with the natural world. She is also a huge believer in the power of PLAY. Anna's debut picture book, BAT COUNT (Arbordale, February 2017), is a fic-informational story of bats, citizen science and hope. SMITH MEMORIAL PLAYGROUND AND PLAYHOUSE (Arcadia, 2026), co-authored with Deborah Shine Valentine, traces the 125 year history of a unique and magical Philadelphia institution devoted to providing opportunities for play for all Philadelphia children. Anna has taught kindergarten, second grade, college and graduate students, and in her other life she creates and advocates for landscapes for play. She has raised two daughters in Philadelphia, where she lives with her husband and dogs, and she spends many weekends exploring the wilds of Pennsylvania.
