Brian J Ford is an award-winning scientist, TV broadcaster, lecturer and writer. He is on television around the world, featuring in the 'Home of the Future' documentaries, the 'Weird Weapons' programmes, based on his books about wartime science, also featuring in 'Death in Soho' for the BBC and reporting on spontaneous human combustion for the 'World's Most Unexplained' series. He has hosted TV programmes including 'Computer Challenge' and 'Food for Thought', his own BBC series including 'Science Now' and 'Where Are you Taking Us?' and has appeared on 'Newsnight' and 'Any Questions?'. Brian has also been a regular panelist on 'Round Britain Quiz' partnering Lady Antonia Fraser. In private life, Brian is a distinguished research scientist whose books have appeared in over 140 editions in many countries. He has also been guest speaker on over 80 international cruises right around the world. He was appointed Visiting Professor at Leicester University, a Fellow at the Open University, is a Fellow of Cardiff University and the Honorary President of the Society for the Application of Research at Cambridge University. He is well known as an international lecturer. Brian's first newspaper column was published over 50 years ago and he went on to write for The Times, Telegraph and Guardian. He has published pioneering research in fields including microbiology, the environment, and the future of food, and has lectured around Britain and travels around the world for research and to speak. Brian is an experienced broadcaster (a leading article in Medical News described him as a 'rare master of the art') and he presented 'Food for Thought' on Channel 4 TV, introduced science to 'Newsbeat' on BBC Radio 1 and was a regular contributor (with Esther Rantzen and Richard Baker) on the BBC's 'Start the Week'. His 30-plus books have been widely reviewed and he contributes to American encyclopedias. He has contributed to Scientific American, Nature, the MIT Journal, Science Digest, the British Medical Journal and New Scientist. His books range from textbooks like 'Microbiology and Food' to the best-selling '101 Questions about Science' books, and his popular 'First Encyclopedia of Science' sold over 70,000 copies in a month. His recent books include the 'Future of Food' (Thames & Hudson), 'Genes, the Fight for Life' (Cassells), and 'Sensitive Souls' (Little, Brown) published in New York as the 'Secret Language of Life' (Fromm International). There has recently been a Japanese translation from his book 'BSE The Facts' and the third Chinese edition of his 'Secret Language of Life'. In 2011 he published his book 'Secret Weapons' on WWII. Most recently published are his controversial dinosaur book 'Too Big to Walk', from Harper Collins, and his updated satire 'Nonscience Returns' published by Curtis Press. He has also recorded his first audio book, 'Understanding Viruses', for the Funding Genius Foundation in the USA.
